High Level Forum on Public Procurement Reforms

Tunis, 16-17 November 2009 - The African Development Bank (AfDB) will host the High Level Forum on Public Procurement Reforms in Africa. The keynote theme of the Forum will be Sustaining Economic Development and Poverty Reduction through the Current Economic Crisis.

High-level officials, practitioners and experts in charge of public procurement policies and practices in African public administrations will attend the Tunis High Level Forum. It will also bring together representatives from national Private sector Organizations and Federation of Civil Society Organizations, as well as representatives from international development organizations and academia.

Participants at the Forum will discuss African perspectives and prepare recommendations on the way forward on the ongoing public procurement reforms in Africa, in order to sustain economic development and poverty reduction in the context of the current global economic slowdown. They will also come to agreement on a process to emphasize African priorities towards using African countries' procurement systems as a mandatory means for medium and long term development policy.
