On May 26-28, ChileCompra, the Public Procurement and Contracting Bureau in Chile, participated in the first South American training course for Trainers in Sustainable Public Procurement. The course was designed for a group of 30 Latin American public procurement professionals who met at the Chilean ECLAC Headquarters to receive the knowledge and skills necessary to become trainers in the field of sustainable public procurement in their respective countries. Chile is firmly committed to creating and strengthening a sustainable procurement policy. This was announced by President Michelle Bachelet in her annual speech last year: “we shall implement an environmentally-friendly public procurement policy [...] we shall increase the recycling of paper in public offices and promote the use of biodegradable products. And, of course, we expect this to set an example for the private sector,” said the President.
